King Lewis Takes the 2008 F1 Championship

Posted by DazBlade in F1 Grand Prix on November 2 2008

It was edge of seat stuff and my heart sank when Vettel overtook Hamilton on the final 2 laps. All I could think was that all his hard work had gone down the drain and for the 2nd season on the bounce he would be stripped of the title on the last race. I was literally screaming at the TV and just crying out for something to put Lewis back on track…. and then it happened, Timo Glock made the unfortunate decision to stay out on ‘dry’ tyres and as the rain poured down he had no choice but to fall off the pace and it was just the break that Hamilton needed to take back 5th position at the final bend of the Brazilian (Interlagos) Grand Prix and become the youngest Grand Prix World Champion in history. It is no more than he deserved considering all the hard work he has put in all season with some excellent races and more importantly the consistency and composure that an F1 champion has to produce to be the best.

My commiserations go out to Felipe Massa who drove an excellent race and did everything he had to (just like Lewis) but on the day it just wasn’t enough to seal the championship. Massa fully deserved to win that race in front of his home crowd just a pity some of the crowd could not be a bit more sporting as they aimed inappropriate jeers at Hamilton. Congratulations to Massa to pushing season to such a climax and congratulations to Lewis Hamilton on becoming the youngest ever F1 World Champion.

Jonathan Ross & Russell Brand - Something over nothing!!

Posted by DazBlade in General on October 29 2008

Have you heard about Mr Ross and Mr Brand and their prank phone call to Andrew Sachs? What the hell has this got to do with the prime minister and parliament? those arty farty prats can hardly string together a coherent sentence never mind condemn two of the funniest blokes around today. Fair enough, it may have a been a tad out of order and juvenile but they have apologised for godsake!!! Move On! Get Over It!! Stop making such a fuss over nothing you bunch of birks.

Hmmm, 10,000 complaints? - yeah right, did you see the handful of people on the news who were interviewed following these alleged complaints? Yep you guessed it, all old age pensioners - what a surprise, NOT!! These geriatrics have nothing better to do than find something to complain about to fill up their dull and boring lifes - “Mr Ross has been a very naughty boy and should be sacked” — yes yes very quaint you old dear, now go take your tablets and find something else to occupy your dementia!! I’d actually be surprised if anyone under 60 years old complained or even raised an eyebrow at this so-called situation.

All I can say is that Mr Ross & Mr Brand will be laughing all the way to the bank with the extra publicity and media attention - what do I say? Good luck to both of them because they have not done anything wrong - you people need to get a grip on reality and start dealing with real issues instead of making mountains out of ant hills. Get a life, move on and let it go - you’ll feel much better and be doing the rest of us a favour when we no longer have to listen to your pathetic nonsense!!

Xfactor - Saturday 11th October

Posted by DazBlade in General on October 12 2008

O dear - not up to much this year. As far as I see it there are only 2 contenders with a realistic chance of winning and they are Laura White and Rachael Hylton. I think Alexandra Burke has an outside chance but she needs to fully pronounce the words when singing, so with some improvement she could stop Hylton and White from running away with it. Ruth Lorenzo sounds like she can sing but she needs to realise this is an English competition so by singing in Spanish she is not doing herself any favours. Please, Ruth, sing using English words and lets see how good you really are. The rest are just pub singers at best. I think the 16 year old Eoghan has got potential but will probably need to wait a couple of years before his time comes - possibly one to look out for in the future.

Where do they find the audience from for this show too? They have got to be the biggest bunch of brain dead morons on the planet. A judge says something positive and they cheer! A judge says something negative and they boo and hiss! These people are worse than sheep. They have no affinity to any particular judge or contestant. These people are diabolical at best and mentally challenged at worst. Stop spoiling the show with your impromptu jeers and cheers and actually let the judges speak and that way you may learn what intelligent conversation is like for the rest of us. If the Xfactor is going to survive they need to either get rid of the brain dead audience or only allow people in that can actually form an opinion and preferably have more than one brain cell!!

Ok, on to my prediction. I have to go for Rachael Hylton. Forget about her background, this girl can sing, is confident and emotive in her performance and looks to have the edge (only just) over Laura White. However, the surprise “dark horse” called be Ruth Lorenzo but I am backing Rachael all the way.

Me and my brother went to visit this small site. It was a nice day and got chance to play around with some of the settings on my Nikon D40X Digital SLR camera. I was mainly setting the F-Spot, ISO and shutter speed and consequently the photos do vary in quality, look and feel, especially the sky photos.

We also got some nice close-up shots of spiders, flowers, gnats and even horses…

Anyway, please visit the Photos section or click here to go directly to the Gallery.

Finally Some Justice!!

Posted by DazBlade in Football on September 24 2008

The result of the independent tribunal hearing into the Carlos Tevez affair was very heart warming. Finally some justice although it is far too little, far too late.

The tribunal has ruled against West Ham over the Tevez affair, according to my beloved Sheffield United and its about time too!! SUFC will be claiming millions of pounds in compensation but that will not compensate for being relegated from the Premier League which, as we all know, should have been West Ham who got booted out.

I found the statement by the FA particularly amusing: “For clarity, the FA did not sit in judgement on this case, did not have any influence on the decision and did not appoint any of the tribunal members” - hmmm, well Derrr!! If they had of appointed members then the decision would have been just as corrupt as the cheats that committed the heinous act in the first place!!! Thankfully the FA had no input in the decision.

Burn an MP3 with K3B

Posted by DazBlade in Fedora, LINUX on March 28 2008

This article is specifically aimed at Fedora users when using the Gnome desktop. However, it should be easy to translate it to your own specific Linux distro, I think.

When starting/using K3B, you may get the following message:-
————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Mp3 Audio Decoder plugin not found.
K3b could not load or find the Mp3 decoder plugin. This means that you will not be able to create Audio CDs from Mp3 files. Many Linux distributions do not include Mp3 support for legal reasons.
Solution: To enable Mp3 support, please install the MAD Mp3 decoding library as well as the K3b MAD Mp3 decoder plugin (the latter may already be installed but not functional due to the missing libmad). Some distributions allow installation of Mp3 support via an online update tool (i.e. SuSE’s YOU).
————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Now, I had previously installed libmad so initially was somewhat confused by this message as libmad was installed and I thought that this was all that was needed to give me MP3 support. When performing a ‘yum install libmad’ it did not request for any dependencies. So after further research, I was surprised to find I also needed to install libmad-devel (MPEG audio decoder library development files) and madplay (MPEG audio decoder and player) but that was still not the end of it, oh no…

The final piece of the jigsaw was a little K3B plugin by the name of k3b-extras-nonfree-1.0.3-1.lvn8.i386.rpm - should you need the RPM package you can find the relevant one for your disto & version at http://rpm.pbone.net/ and just search on “rpm-mp3″ without the quotes. Currently needed for RedHat and Fedora and you should be able to get the RPM package for your specific version. Or if you prefer then just open a terminal and perform a yum install k3b-extras-nonfree and job done.

In Ubuntu you may only need to Run the following code in a terminal: sudo apt-get install libk3b2-mp3 - unsure as to whether you need the other stuff  (or similar), above?

Now when you run K3B, your system configuration should get the all clear and you can burn your MP3’s using your chosen method.

Just Like Watching Brazil?

Posted by DazBlade in Football on January 29 2008

That was the message imprinted on the balloons released by the Man City fans when they visited Bramall Lane for the FA Cup 4th round tie. Well, whoever printed those balloons clearly knows very little about the beautiful game of football or maybe its a case of wishful thinking, perhaps.

In fact, it was those very same balloons that apparently confused the City defence and Goalkeeper into handing us our first goal or thats what they would like you to believe. How anyone cannot tell the difference between a big blue or white balloon and a football, is just unbelievable. Here’s a tip, City - A balloon is big, bouncy and slightly mis-shaped. Whereas a football is smaller, white and circular!

The reality is that their defence cocked up. The appropriately named City defender, Michael Ball, appeared to kick at fresh air as the football went through the middle of his legs and landed at the feet of Luton Shelton who calmly controlled the ball before slotting past Joe Hart and into the back of the net. Hart then proceeded to stamp on the balloons as if somehow they were to blame as opposed to sloppy defending.

Sheff Utd 2 Man City 1 - We matched them in most areas and simply out played them in others and we got a very well deserved win. For me, the man of the match was definitely Sheff Utd defender, Leigh Bromby, who actually can tell the difference between a balloon and a football…

Lets take it through to the next round now, when we will play Middlesboro at home.

Come on you Blades!

PS note to Boro fans - if you wish to bring some balloons to the match then you are more than welcome!
